
Jakarta, April 9, 2026 – In an effort to improve disaster preparedness through the use of digital technology, the Master of Communication Science of Bunda Mulia University (UBM) held a Community Service (PKM) activity entitled “Digital Communication Assistance for Optimizing Disaster Preparedness” . This activity was in collaboration with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Fire and Rescue Service and was attended by 32 participants. This activity presented three competent speakers in the field of communication. Dr. Muhamad Isnaini, S.Si., MIKom. delivered material on digital communication in fire disaster mitigation, emphasizing the importance of utilizing digital media to increase public awareness and preparedness.

Next, Dr. Ir. Hilarius Bambang Winarko, MM presented material related to social marketing services , which highlighted communication strategies based on social marketing approaches to encourage changes in community behavior to be more responsive to disaster risks. Meanwhile, Dr. Irene Silviani, .SP delivered material on disaster crisis communication, which discussed how to formulate communication messages effectively in emergency situations, manage the flow of information, and maintain public trust in the midst of crisis conditions.

This activity also involved the active participation of UBM Master of Communication Science students, namely Gilbert Leonardo Devincie and Angelina Errita, who supported the activity and contributed to the process of mentoring participants during the practical and discussion sessions. In addition to delivering material, this activity also included interactive discussion sessions and hands-on practice. Participants were trained to develop digital-based disaster communication content and conducted simulations of information dissemination in emergency situations. The participants’ enthusiasm was evident in their active participation in discussions and involvement in each activity session.

Participants responded very positively to this activity. They considered the material presented relevant, applicable, and provided real benefits in supporting their duties, particularly in conveying disaster information quickly, accurately, and effectively to the public. The participants’ enthusiasm was also evident in their hope that similar activities could continue to be held on an ongoing basis with more in-depth material. Overall, this positive response indicates that the PKM activities implemented have provided a meaningful learning experience and are able to meet the needs of participants in improving digital communication capacity. Through this activity, the UBM Master of Communication Science affirms its commitment to supporting the improvement of disaster communication capacity in Indonesia. Going forward, similar programs are expected to continue to be implemented sustainably and reach more parties, so that disaster preparedness can be optimized in the digital era.
