The Accounting Study Program, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Bunda Mulia University (UBM), successfully held a Public Lecture on Management Accounting with the theme “The Role of Management Accountants in the Digital Age: Supporting Business Sustainability Through ESG.” The event took place on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the UBM Premier Classroom, Ancol Campus.
The session featured Giovanni Christopher, S.E., M.M. as the keynote speaker and was moderated by Dr. Temy Setiawan. The lecture was attended by third-semester students of the Accounting Study Program, reflecting the program’s commitment to strengthening students’ understanding of current developments in the accounting profession.
The event commenced with opening remarks from the Master of Ceremony, Yulia, a fifth-semester student of the Accounting Study Program. In his presentation, Giovanni emphasized the evolving role of management accountants in the digital era—highlighting their strategic contributions in integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into business operations. He elaborated that management accountants are no longer limited to traditional budgeting and control functions but now act as strategic business partners who support decision-making, innovation, and sustainability initiatives through digital transformation and responsible governance.
A dynamic discussion session followed the presentation. Students actively engaged with insightful questions related to the challenges faced by management accountants in the digital industry, the relevant skills required, and the real-world applications of management accounting in supporting sustainable business practices. This interaction demonstrated the students’ curiosity and growing awareness of the profession’s evolving landscape in response to digitalization and ESG integration.
The session concluded with the presentation of a Token of Appreciation from the moderator to the speaker, followed by a group photo session involving all participants and committee members.
Through this public lecture, the Accounting Study Program of Bunda Mulia University aims to enhance students’ academic and professional competencies, particularly in linking management accounting with sustainability and digital innovation. This activity also reaffirms UBM’s commitment to bridging academic theory with professional practice, preparing graduates who are adaptive, accountable, and capable of addressing contemporary business challenges in the digital era.
