Hello, Biemers!
To strengthen collaboration between higher education and secondary schools, the Digital Business Study Program at Universitas Bunda Mulia (UBM), in partnership with the Digital Business Student Association (EXODUS), held a Community Service activity titled “From Hobby to Profit: How Social Media and Games Shape the World of Digital Marketing.”
This event was attended by 30 students from SMA Budi Mulia and took place at UBM Ancol Campus on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:30 AM.
Social Media & Games: Not Just Entertainment, but Business Opportunities
The event began with a presentation by Mr. Reynard J.N. Makarawung, S.E., M.M., a lecturer from UBM’s Digital Business Program, who explained the fundamentals of digital marketing in an engaging and interactive way.
The session focused on the transformation of marketing strategies in the digital era and how social media and games shape consumer behavior and enable impactful campaigns.
Participants explored how platforms like TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitch have become key battlegrounds for modern marketing. The presentation covered current practices such as influencer marketing, interactive content (challenges, giveaways), and the use of gamification techniques in promotions.
Learning by Doing: Collaboration, Discussion, and Campaign Ideas
To create a friendly and participatory atmosphere, the session continued with an ice-breaking activity, “Guess the Picture,” featuring popular figures from social media and digital entertainment.
In the practical session, students were divided into small groups of five. Each group was tasked with designing a digital marketing campaign for a fictional brand. They were asked to determine:
Each group gave a short presentation and received direct feedback from the lecturer and student facilitators, creating a constructive and applicable learning environment.
Shaping a Generation of Critical and Innovative Digital Natives
The activity offered a learning experience that was both educational and fun. Students realized that the digital marketing world they consume daily could be understood more deeply from a strategic and business perspective.
“I just realized that what I watch every day on TikTok or YouTube could actually be part of a highly planned marketing strategy. That’s so cool!” – shared one participant.
Expanding Future Community Service Initiatives
The Digital Business Study Program at UBM considers this Community Service activity a success in enhancing students’ digital literacy and creativity while opening their minds to business opportunities in the tech era.
Moving forward, UBM aims to develop similar programs — with longer sessions, real-time content creation, and participation from more partner schools.
Through continued collaboration between universities and high schools, UBM is committed to shaping a young generation that is creative, adaptive, ethical, and visionary in the digital business world.
