On October 25, 2025, Mr. Nicholas Wilson, SE, MM, a lecturer in the Management Study Program at Bunda Mulia University (UBM) Serpong Campus, conducted a Community Service (PKM) activity in collaboration with Santa Maria Della Strada High School. The activity took place in Room 1107, UBM Tower, UBM Serpong Campus, Alam Sutera, Tangerang, Banten, with the theme “Create Your Own Business.” This event was attended by 38 participants and lasted for approximately 60 minutes, from 09.30 to 10.30 WIB. In its implementation, Mr. Nicholas was also accompanied by Stevani, an active student of the Management Study Program at UBM Serpong Campus. The main objective of this PKM activity is to provide education to students about various myths that often arise in the business world, including the assumption that starting a business requires large capital, that good products will definitely sell in the market, that entrepreneurs must always dare to take big risks, that failure marks the end of everything, and that after having a business someone no longer needs to learn. In his presentation, Mr. Nicholas explained that in reality, many successful businesses actually started with limited capital. Product success is determined not only by quality, but also by the right marketing strategy.
Successful entrepreneurs are not those who recklessly take big risks, but rather those who are able to manage risks strategically. He also emphasized that failure is part of the learning process, and that an entrepreneur must constantly learn and adapt to changing times. In addition to discussing business myths, this activity also highlighted the importance of leadership in running a business. A business leader must be able to manage a team, develop effective strategies, and make decisions based on objective data analysis. After the presentation session, the event continued with a discussion and an interactive question and answer session with 12th-grade students of Santa Maria Della Strada High School. In the hope that the students will understand the business world more realistically and be able to avoid mistakes caused by believing in false myths. After the presentation session, a question and answer (Q&A) session was held with 12th-grade students of Santa Maria Della Strada High School. Through this activity, it is hoped that participants will gain a more realistic and practical understanding of the business world and learn to avoid common mistakes that often arise from misleading business myths.
