In his public lecture, Prof. Zhou Zhen, Ph.D. began his explanation by discussing traditional banks and how they operate and manage customer deposits. He also examined banking cases that reflect the fragility of banks as financial institutions. He then outlined the various digital transformations emerging in the banking world and how the problems faced by traditional banks also arise in digital banks. “Technological developments not only pose significant challenges to traditional banking business models but also present new opportunities and risks for the industry. In this digital era, banks must innovate while implementing robust risk management practices, and regulators must adapt to maintain financial stability,” said Prof. Zhou Zhen, Ph.D. (11/14/2025). The Tsinghua University professor also emphasized that students currently studying banking and financial stability must build a strong foundation in both traditional financial theory and emerging digital technologies. Integrating an understanding of finance, technology, and banking regulations will enable students to adapt effectively to the ever-evolving banking landscape and help them in their future careers and work in the banking world. According to the 2026 QS Rankings , Tsinghua University is ranked 17th among the best universities in the world, and Tsinghua University’s PBC School of Finance recently received accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
