A toxic relationship is a relationship where one of the partners displays unhealthy behavior that can negatively affect the physical and psychological well-being of the other person. Toxic relationships can occur not only in romantic relationships but also in family and friendships. Unlike healthy relationships, where there is love, mutual respect, and attention, toxic relationships are characterized by one-way communication and excessive possessiveness.
In toxic relationships, one party is not given the opportunity to develop into a better person. The characteristics of toxic relationships include discomfort, selfishness, negative emotions, unhappiness, and low self-esteem. Therefore, choosing to stay or end a toxic relationship can be confusing for some individuals.
To help students understand the phenomenon of toxic relationships and how to deal with them, a seminar will be held on March 4th, 2023. The topics that will be discussed include understanding the causes and factors of toxic behavior, identifying toxic relationships, and ways to fix or leave toxic relationships. The seminar will be held online and will feature Jovita Maria Ferliana, M.Psi, a psychologist, as the speaker.
