The Management Study Program of Bunda Mulia University, Serpong Campus, held an incidental Community Service (Abdimas) activity with the theme ” Healing is Also Productive”. The Abdimas activity was held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, with a total of 16 participants who were students of Santo Paulus 3 Middle School, grades VII, VIII, and IX. In its implementation, it was assisted by an active student of Bunda Mulia University, Serpong Campus, named Marcello Vially Alessandro. The speaker in the first Abdimas activity was Mr. Hary S. Sundoro, SE., ME as a lecturer in the Management Study Program. He presented material on the “4-7-8 Breathing Method”. In the material, it was explained that a challenge that often arises in the world of education today is that students experience burnout at school. Burnout experienced by most students is not only in studying but also when students face all school activities and their personal lives at home every day. Moreover, at this time students will soon face the final school exam for class promotion and graduation for grade IX students.
Therefore, the topic is very appropriate to prepare students today and future provisions so that students can become a better generation. Signs of burnout include: resistance that can be shown by the emergence of laziness to go to school or too often looking at the clock while at school hoping every activity will end quickly, difficult to control emotions for example someone becomes quick to anger and easily physically tired, isolation that is withdrawing from social interactions, and finally a sense of failure where the emergence of a cynical attitude towards the environment due to feelings of failure within oneself. Burnout conditions are not good because they can harm oneself and those around them, therefore it must be addressed immediately. Healing can be the answer, literally meaning healing, this refers to the process of recovering physical, mental, or emotional conditions from pain, fatigue, stress, trauma, to emotional wounds so that someone can feel calm and healthy again. One way to achieve this is with the 4-7-8 breathing technique, which is a relaxation method involving inhaling for 4 seconds, holding it for 7 seconds, and exhaling for 8 seconds.
Based on ancient yoga techniques (pranayama), this method works to relieve stress, lower heart rate, and help you fall asleep faster. A fresher brain, a normal heart rate, and a fitter physical condition will keep burnout away. Of course, this method is easy and free! After the first session was over, the speaker for the second Abdimas activity, Ms. Grace Putlia, SE., MM, a lecturer in the Management Study Program, began her presentation. She presented the material on “Activity Patterns to Be More Productive.” Realizing that humans are heterogeneous, this creates a dynamic life rich with diverse individuals, overcoming burnout with just one method is certainly not enough, some may find it suitable but others do not, therefore other methods were also presented that students could try to apply. Activity patterns to be more productive without burnout include arranging a daily activity schedule (time management) so that in 1 day students can spend time doing many things that make them not bored, for example in 1 day the schedule can be arranged as follows: 1) Morning-afternoon – breakfast, school, hanging out with friends, lunch. 2) Afternoon – go home for a nap. 3) Afternoon – help parents, hang out with friends, study and do homework . 4) Evening – socialize with family by watching TV together, praying, and sleeping. Of course, the variety of activities must still be adjusted to each individual’s physical abilities to avoid physical fatigue. Closing the second session, students were given lots of picture guessing games, math puzzles , and maze worksheets .
Games are also one method that can keep burnout at bay. Of course, this method is easy and free! Many free games are available online, but remember to manage your time. Remember, burnout only needs a short break. The Abdimas activity was continued with a sharing session by students, who participated so they could practice directly in the community. This session was also the final session. An active student at UBM Serpong Campus, Marcello Vially Alessandro, shared his experience in healing during his learning process from elementary school to college. His experience in elementary school showed that healing can be achieved more by playing with friends. In junior high school, healing could be achieved by listening to music, in high school, healing could be achieved by watching favorite TV shows. As adults, now in college, healing by meeting friends more often to share ‘tiredness’ is considered sufficient.
Finally, it was reminded once again that healing does not have to involve activities that require money. After all the speakers finished presenting the material, even though there was only a short time left, a question and answer session was still held. In this session, only a few participants asked questions, because in each session the speakers had already received sufficient questions that were immediately answered. The Abdimas activity was then closed with a group photo. The Abdimas activity at SMP Santo Paulus 3 proved that knowledge and concepts are still necessary in carrying out practice. Participants were not forgotten to fill in feedback, dominantly stating that the Abdimas activity was hoped to be carried out again in the future if possible, of course, with topics that are appropriate to the current situation.
