Jakarta, September 19, 2025 — The Student Activity Unit (UKM) BIEMS Theater & Tartra of Bunda Mulia University (UBM) Jakarta successfully held the event “Workshop of Dance in the Blood: Exploring the Meaning Behind the Nusantara Heritage.” The event, which took place at The UBM Seminar Room (TUSR), not only revived enthusiasm for traditional dance but also strengthened collaboration between BIEMS Theater and the Traditional Dance Student Unit.
The workshop provided participants with an opportunity to explore traditional dance more deeply through comprehensive learning sessions. Guided by professional dance instructor Krispina Asih Mahanani, the workshop introduced the essence of Nawung Sekar — a classical Yogyakarta-style dance that portrays the beauty and grace of a young maiden.

During the 30-minute theory session, Ms. Krispina explained the details of each movement, from the foot positions mendhak and nylekenthing to the hand gestures ngruji and ngithing. She also elaborated on important expressions such as sembah, gedruk, kicat, kengser, and trisik. The participants — both male and female from diverse backgrounds — attentively absorbed every piece of knowledge shared.
The “Dance in the Blood” workshop was more than just an event; it was a valuable investment in the future of cultural heritage. BIEMS Theater & Tartra not only conducted a workshop but also instilled the understanding that dance is a reflection of identity and a philosophy of life. Participants did not only gain dance skills but also brought home new insights that would remain deeply rooted within them.

This initiative serves as a concrete step in preserving ancestral heritage, ensuring it remains alive and relevant amidst modernization. Moving forward, BIEMS Theater & Tartra is committed to continuing as a platform for young generations to explore and preserve Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage. It is hoped that similar activities will continue to be held to foster even greater appreciation and love for the Nusantara legacy.
