By Axel Samuel Gianaldy (a Communication Science student from Bunda Mulia University Serpong Batch 2021) – Bunda Mulia University Serpong has successfully conducted a Community Service activity titled “Communication Ethics” on Thursday (26/01) at 10:00 am at Tarsisius Vireta High School, attended by 74 participants.
This Community Service activity featured Ms. Patricia Robin, S.I.Kom., M.I.Kom as a lecturer of Communication Science at Bunda Mulia University Serpong to present materials to Tarsisius Vireta High School students. She was assisted by a fourth-semester student from the Communication Science program, Nathania Vienny Darsono.
During the session, Ms. Patricia provided an explanation of communication and why communication is important. She explained that communication is a process in which shared understanding and meaning are established between individuals or between organizations and individuals. Communication also has levels or stages, namely intrapersonal communication, interpersonal communication, group communication, organizational communication, public communication, and mass communication.
Finally, Ms. Patricia also explained that communication is important because every human has multiple roles. Humans are able to play several roles at once, whether in the office, in organizations, or in society. So, these roles have unique abilities and communication styles that vary according to the character that they will display.
In the next session, Ms. Patricia gave Nathania the opportunity to present materials in this Community Service activity. Nathania explained how to communicate in the office and at school. She also explained that leadership has elements, namely having a clear vision, respecting others, having a credible personality, and having successful experience. Finally, she explained that public speaking has seven elements, namely speakers, audience, message, noise, context, channel, and ethics.
