The 12th Gadjah Mada International Conference on Economics and Business (GAMAICEB) was organized by Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Yogyakarta. With the conference theme of “Inclusivity & Diversity in Economics, Business, and Accounting: Beyond Borders,” the event was held at the Alana Yogyakarta Hotel & Convention Center on 26-27 September 2024. The opening ceremony commenced on the first day at 8.30 WIB with speeches from the Conference General Chair Gigih Fitrianto, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., and the Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation and Alumni, Gumilang Aryo Sahadewo, Ph.D. Immediately following the welcoming speeches, the conference began with the plenary session with the keynote speakers which were Associated Professor Poppy Ismalina (UGM), Professor Renato Pereira (Iscte Business School, Portugal), and Assoc. Prof. Jengfang Chen (Macquarie University, Australia). After each speaker presented, the session concluded with a question-answer session and closing remarks.
After a brief coffee break, the conference proceeded with the parallel presentation sessions conducted in four meeting rooms. Aligned with the conference theme, hundreds of researchers contributed to empirical and conceptual papers on various topics in Accounting, Economics, Finance and Investment, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Operations Management, and Strategic Management. In each presentation room, parallel presentation sessions were organized in 3 sessions on day 1 and 4 sessions on day 2. Presenters came from various universities and included participants from Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, and China.
Representing UBM, Dr. Siti Yasmina Zubaedah is the management faculty member whose article was accepted to be presented on the second day, Friday, 27th September 2024. The paper presented at GAMAICEB was entitled, “Agile Strategy Formation: Knowledge-Creation Capability for Entrepreneurial Success in Bio-Based Commodities.” The article was developed based on the case study of a Small Medium Enterprise (SME) that produced various cooking powders made from chili, herbs, and spices. In particular, the case study provided a detailed analysis on the entrepreneurial strategy of the SME, which allowed the business to flourish. Based on the Strategic Entrepreneurship theory, the case study offers a novel approach to analyze SMEs and provides a guideline for practitioners to maintain competitiveness.
The two-day conference concluded with the gala dinner held in the ballroom of Alana Yogyakarta Hotel & Convention Center on the evening of the second and final day. In addition to formally concluding the conference, the gala dinner allowed the participants to network with other researchers in a casual setting. The closing ceremony marked the end of the GAMAICEB and participants retreated accordingly. UBM Management’s participation in this conference marked the beginning of future collaborations with other universities and researchers as well as aimed at enriching scientific and academic activities.
