The Faculty of Technology and Design at Bunda Mulia University (UBM) successfully hosted a seminar titled “The Creative and Industrial Frontier: A Primer on Generative AI .” The event was attended by lecturers and students from the Information Systems, Informatics, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence study programs.
The seminar featured an international speaker, Prof. Pao Ann Hsiung, Ph.D., from National Chung Cheng University (CCU), who provided a comprehensive presentation on the fundamental concepts, architecture, development, and applications of Generative AI across various industrial sectors. Her presence provided a valuable opportunity for the academic community to understand the technology that is now the foundation of global digital innovation.
In recent developments, Generative AI has become one of the most significant innovations in the technology world. Not only is it impacting the way the industry develops digital content, but it is also uniting two worlds that have long existed side by side: information technology and creative design.
UBM, through the Faculty of Technology and Design, is strategically positioned to bridge these two fields so that students can maximize the opportunities created by the latest developments in AI.
This seminar is designed to broaden students’ understanding of generative AI, from the fundamentals of neural networks, GAN models, Transformers, to Diffusion technology, which is now widely used in image creation applications. Participants will also be encouraged to understand the ethical implications, data privacy, the role of humans in the AI era, and opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration.
The event was attended by 460 participants from various study programs within the Faculty of Technology and Design, as well as students from outside the faculty. The majority of participants gave a very positive assessment of the seminar’s benefits, particularly the sessions discussing how AI models work, prompting techniques, AI application demonstrations, and real-world examples of generative AI implementation in industry.
The Faculty of Technology and Design at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UBM) is committed to continuously presenting academic activities that support the development of student competencies in technology and design. This seminar is expected to be the first step in building a stronger, more relevant, and applicable AI learning ecosystem on campus.
By holding this activity, UBM emphasizes its role as an educational institution that is adaptive to technological developments while preparing human resources who are ready to contribute to the digital creative industry and the wider community.
