By Axel Samuel Gianaldy (Communication Science Student at UBM Serpong Class of 2021) – The Asian Law Students’ Association (ALSA) is a non-profit and non-political international association consisting of law students from several countries in Asia. Since 1995, ALSA LC UI has successfully maintained a national English competition known as ALSA E-Comp, the largest and most anticipated English competition by students and high school students from all over the country.
In its 26th year, ALSA held another English competition with the theme “Enforce Perseverance, Seek for Brilliance” last August. With this theme, ALSA hopes that this competition can be a platform for participants to explore their potential and enhance their perseverance to achieve excellence. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2022 competition had to be held online. ALSA E-Comp opened eight different competitions, namely Newscasting, Paper Presentation, Short Story Writing, Speech, Spelling Bee, and Storytelling.

Seeing this, students from Bunda Mulia University Serpong Campus also participated in this competition. Antonius T. Harefa, a fifth-semester student, and Karenita, a third-semester student, participated in the Speech competition, while Rafah Jireh, a fifth-semester student, and Vionita Angellin, a third-semester student, participated in the Newscasting competition. Guided by several lecturers from the Communication Science program, they participated in the competition well, met the requirements given, and passed the stages in the competition.
Praise be to God Almighty, because Antonius T. Harefa and Karenita successfully made it to the top 15 semi-finals in the Speech competition, but were eliminated in the final stage. Then, for the Newscasting competition, Rafah Jireh and Vionita Angellin did not have the opportunity to advance in the semi-final or final stages. However, this did not stop them because through this competition, they could gain valuable knowledge and experience. At the end of the competition, participants and winners were awarded E-Certificates.
