The Interactive Design Study Program at Bunda Mulia University once again held a public lecture as part of its effort to broaden students’ understanding of developments in the digital creative industry and professional practices in the game sector. Carrying the theme “Game Industry, Design, and Creative Ecosystem,” the event featured Ken Natasha Violeta as the keynote speaker, a multidisciplinary professional with experience in both Indonesia’s game industry and higher education.
The game industry is one of the fastest-growing sectors within the digital creative industry and plays an important role in the development of the creative economy, technology, and visual culture. Today, games are no longer viewed solely as entertainment media, but also as interactive products that integrate visual design, technology, storytelling, user experience, production strategy, and intellectual property development. In its development process, the game industry requires multidisciplinary collaboration involving art, design, technology, management, and an understanding of user and market needs.
As part of the learning process in the Interactive Design Study Program, students need to understand how interactive design, visual design, technology, and user experience can be applied in the development of innovative digital products relevant to industry needs. Therefore, this public lecture served as a platform to introduce students to the dynamics of the game industry, opportunities for creative work development, and professional practices evolving at both national and international levels.
This public lecture featured Ken Natasha Violeta, who has experience in operations, strategic partnerships, international relations, curriculum design, instructional development, and program delivery. She currently serves as the Operations and Strategic Partnerships Manager at the Indonesian Game Association, an organization actively involved in developing the national game industry ecosystem. In her presentation, she shared insights into the growth of Indonesia’s game industry, the importance of collaboration between academia and industry, and how a creative ecosystem can support the emergence of competitive local innovations and intellectual properties.
Conducted online, the event was attended by students of the Interactive Design Study Program at Bunda Mulia University who were taking courses related to games and interactive media. Through discussion sessions and presentations, students gained insights into the creative and professional processes within the game industry, ranging from idea development, user experience design, visual production, and creative project management to opportunities in transmedia storytelling and digital content monetization.
In addition to providing insights into the development of the game industry, the public lecture also aimed to introduce the relationship between interactive design, storytelling, technology, and user experience in game development. Students were also given an overview of professional practices, strategic partnerships, international relations, and career opportunities in the fields of game design, game art, interactive media, and creative technology.
Through this activity, students are expected not only to understand the development of the game industry from technical and creative perspectives, but also to develop motivation to continuously improve their skills, creativity, communication abilities, and adaptability to the advancement of digital technology. This public lecture represents one of the commitments of the Interactive Design Study Program at Bunda Mulia University to bridge the gap between academia and the needs of the digital creative industry, while encouraging students to create innovative works with cultural, economic, and technological value for the future.
