Painting Totebag Workshop with Students of SMA Kemurnian 2
Serpong, September 18, 2026 – Universitas Bunda Mulia (UBM) Serpong Campus, through the Visual Communication Design (VCD) Study Program, organized a Community Service (Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat/PkM) activity entitled “Painting Totebag Workshop with Students of SMA Kemurnian 2.” The activity was held on Friday, September 18, 2026, in Room 505, 5th Floor, Alfa Tower, UBM Serpong Campus, and was attended by 20 students from SMA Kemurnian 2.
Developing Visual Ideas through Exploration
The workshop was part of UBM’s efforts to provide educational activities that bring together academic knowledge and creative practice. Through an exploration of applied visual art, the students were encouraged to develop visual ideas and express them directly on canvas totebags, combining aesthetic value with practical functionality.
Hands-On Painting on Totebags
During the workshop, participants received direct guidance from a lecturer of the UBM Visual Communication Design Study Program, Ferry Agustian Sukarno, S.Sn., M.Sn., together with two VCD students who participated as activity assistants. Participants were introduced to several basic painting techniques, including an introduction to tools and materials, color selection, paint mixing, and the development of visual compositions on totebag surfaces.
In addition to gaining technical knowledge, the students were given the opportunity to explore their individual ideas and visual characteristics. This hands-on approach allowed participants not only to understand the basic concepts of visual art but also to experience the creative process of producing applied artworks that can be used in everyday life.
The activity also served as one of the contributions of the UBM Visual Communication Design Study Program to introducing art and design to secondary school students through an interactive and practical learning experience. The interaction among lecturers, university students, and high school students is expected to provide participants with an initial overview of the learning process in higher education while broadening their perspectives on various opportunities for developing creativity in the fields of art, design, and the creative industries.
Encouraging Collaboration with Secondary Educational Institutions
Through this Community Service activity, UBM Serpong Campus continues to encourage collaboration between higher education institutions and secondary educational institutions as part of its efforts to provide creative learning experiences that are relevant to developments in the fields of art and design.
