The Management Study Program of Bunda Mulia University, Serpong Campus held an incidental Community Service (Abdimas) activity with the theme “Managing Focus and Exploring Leadership Potential”. The Abdimas activity was held on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 with a total of 17 participants who were students of SMP Santo Paulus 3 in grades VII, VIII, and IX. In its implementation, it was assisted by an active student of Bunda Mulia University, Serpong Campus, named Derrent Rogeryo Sky.
The speaker in the first Abdimas activity was Mrs. Grace Putlia, SE., MM as a lecturer in the Management Study Program. She presented material on “Managing Focus”. In the material presented, focus affects the success of learning and teaching. If someone has difficulty concentrating, then their learning will not be optimal. There are 5 ways to manage focus, namely: Know the Value of Mental Focus, Eliminate Distractions, Limit Focus by Avoiding Multitasking, Live in the Moment, and Take a Break. Following up on the lessons, a game was given using pictures to train and find out the focus of the participants. The participants were very interested in paying attention to the existing pictures. After finishing, several questions were given related to the pictures which answers required focus when looking at and paying attention to the pictures and it turned out that only a few participants were able to give the right answers. So it can be concluded that there are still many participants who have not been able to focus, but there is no need to worry because focus can be trained, the more you practice, the more fluent you will be in applying focus in everyday life, especially in terms of focusing on learning.
The first session was over, then the speaker for the second Abdimas activity, Mr. Hary Saputra Sundoro, SE., ME, as a lecturer in the Management Study Program, began his presentation of the material. He presented the material on “Exploring Leadership Potential”. It was conveyed that there are people who are born to be able to lead something and have their own charisma in leading. However, there are also people who have succeeded in leading something by practicing their leadership in various ways. It all depends on how each person understands the potential they have within themselves and the opportunities that can be utilized to actualize their leadership skills. There are several ways to practice leadership, such as: Initiating Class Leader, Group Leader, Joining an Organization, Participating in the Community, Taking Leadership Classes. Following up on this, a game of guessing the leader was given. The conclusion of the presentation and the game is that each individual is a leader and it is important for each individual to continue to explore their leadership potential. Keep learning to evaluate yourself in order to become a worthy leader for the benefit of many people in terms of goodness.
After all the speakers finished presenting the material, even though there was only a little time left, a question-and-answer session was still held. In this session, only a few participants asked questions, because in each previous speaker session there were already quite a lot of questions that were answered directly. This Abdimas activity was then closed with a group photo. The Abdimas activity at SMP Santo Paulus 3 proves that knowledge and concepts are still needed in carrying out practice. This Abdimas activity also invites students so that students can practice directly and participate in society. Then, participants are asked to fill in feedback. Mostly state that Abdimas activities are expected to be carried out again in the future if possible, of course by carrying topics that are in accordance with the current situation and conditions.
