Oleh: Sylviana Hannyca Ho (Mahasiswi Program Studi Ilmu Komunikasi Angkatan 2024) — Senin (11/05), siswa-siswi Sekolah Bunda Mulia Jakarta mengikuti kegiatan trial class bertajuk “Edukasi Dasar Literasi Digital” yang diselenggarakan di Lab TV Universitas Bunda Mulia Kampus Serpong. Kegiatan ini merupakan bagian dari program Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM) yang bertujuan untuk memberikan pemahaman dasar mengenai literasi digital, khususnya dalam penggunaan media sosial secara etis dan kritis. Trial class dipandu oleh Nicodemus Koli selaku dosen Program Studi Ilmu Komunikasi Universitas Bunda Mulia bersama Kevin Andrico sebagai mahasiswa pendamping.
By: Sylviana Hannyca Ho (Communication Science Student, Class of 2024) — On Monday (11/05), students from Bunda Mulia School Jakarta participated in a trial class titled “Basic Digital Literacy Education” held at the TV Lab of Universitas Bunda Mulia Serpong Campus. This activity was part of a Community Service Program (PKM) aimed at providing a basic understanding of digital literacy, particularly in the ethical and critical use of social media. The trial class was led by Nicodemus Koli, a lecturer from the Communication Science Program at Universitas Bunda Mulia, together with Kevin Andrico as the student assistant.
Kegiatan diawali dengan pengenalan singkat mengenai fungsi, manfaat, dan fasilitas Lab TV Universitas Bunda Mulia yang digunakan sebagai sarana praktik mahasiswa Ilmu Komunikasi, khususnya dalam bidang broadcasting dan produksi media. Setelah itu, siswa-siswi diberikan kesempatan untuk menempati area studio sebelum memasuki sesi pemaparan materi. Dalam sambutannya, Nicodemus Koli menjelaskan bahwa proses pembelajaran di perguruan tinggi tidak hanya berasal dari dosen, tetapi juga dari pengalaman dan sudut pandang setiap individu di dalam kelas. Melalui pendekatan tersebut, para siswa diajak untuk aktif menyampaikan pendapat dan berdiskusi selama kegiatan berlangsung.
The activity began with a brief introduction to the functions, benefits, and facilities of the Universitas Bunda Mulia TV Lab, which serves as a practical learning facility for Communication Science students, especially in broadcasting and media production. Afterwards, the students were invited to take their seats in the studio area before entering the material presentation session. In his opening remarks, Nicodemus Koli explained that the learning process in higher education does not only come from lecturers, but also from the experiences and perspectives of every individual in the classroom. Through this approach, the students were encouraged to actively express their opinions and participate in discussions throughout the activity.

Tema “Edukasi Dasar Literasi Digital” kemudian dikembangkan melalui materi bertajuk “Sadar Ber-Content” di Media Sosial yang menekankan pentingnya kesadaran etis dan kritis dalam menggunakan media digital. Sebelum pemaparan materi, siswa-siswi dibagi menjadi empat kelompok untuk mendiskusikan berbagai permasalahan yang sering muncul di media sosial beserta solusi yang dapat dilakukan. Dalam sesi diskusi, para peserta menyampaikan beberapa isu seperti penyebaran hoaks, akses konten yang tidak sesuai usia anak, hingga konten yang mengandung unsur SARA. Menurut para siswa, diperlukan pengawasan orang tua dalam membatasi akses media sosial serta kemampuan untuk membedakan konten yang bermanfaat dan informasi palsu yang dapat menimbulkan keresahan di masyarakat.
The theme “Basic Digital Literacy Education” was further developed through a session titled “Being Aware When Creating Content” on social media, which emphasized the importance of ethical and critical awareness in using digital media. Before the presentation session began, the students were divided into four groups to discuss various issues commonly found on social media along with possible solutions. During the discussion, participants raised several concerns such as the spread of hoaxes, access to age-inappropriate content, and content containing elements of SARA (ethnicity, religion, race, and intergroup issues). According to the students, parental supervision is needed to limit social media access, along with the ability to distinguish between beneficial content and false information that could create public unrest.
Melalui pemaparannya, Nicodemus Koli menjelaskan bahwa media sosial menghadirkan ruang berbagi informasi dan kolaborasi yang sangat luas, bahkan dapat menjadi peluang ekonomi melalui pembuatan konten digital. Namun, beliau juga menekankan bahwa batas antara ruang privat dan publik di media sosial kini semakin tipis sehingga diperlukan kesadaran etis dalam memproduksi maupun mengakses konten. Selain itu, siswa juga diajak untuk memiliki pola pikir kritis dengan tidak langsung mempercayai informasi yang viral tanpa melakukan pengecekan dari berbagai sudut pandang.
Through his presentation, Nicodemus Koli explained that social media provides a very broad space for sharing information and collaboration, and can even become an economic opportunity through digital content creation. However, he also emphasized that the boundary between private and public spaces on social media is becoming increasingly blurred, making ethical awareness essential in both producing and accessing content. In addition, students were encouraged to develop a critical mindset by not immediately believing viral information without verifying it from multiple perspectives.
Setelah sesi pemaparan materi selesai, kegiatan dilanjutkan dengan praktik membaca berita di studio broadcasting yang difasilitasi oleh Kevin Andrico. Dalam sesi ini, siswa-siswi mencoba secara langsung pengalaman menjadi news anchor dengan bantuan teks prompter yang ditampilkan di studio dan hasil pembacaan berita yang langsung ditayangkan melalui monitor TV. Sementara itu, anggota kelompok lainnya berkesempatan mencoba peran di ruang kontrol studio. Antusiasme peserta terlihat selama sesi praktik berlangsung karena mereka dapat merasakan secara langsung suasana pembelajaran di dunia perkuliahan, khususnya di bidang broadcasting dan media digital.
After the presentation session ended, the activity continued with a news-reading practice session in the broadcasting studio facilitated by Kevin Andrico. During this session, the students experienced firsthand what it was like to become news anchors using a teleprompter displayed in the studio, while their news-reading performances were broadcast directly on the TV monitor. Meanwhile, other group members had the opportunity to try roles in the studio control room. The participants’ enthusiasm was evident throughout the practice session as they were able to directly experience the atmosphere of university learning, particularly in the fields of broadcasting and digital media.

Kegiatan trial class ini relevan dengan beberapa mata kuliah di Program Studi Ilmu Komunikasi Universitas Bunda Mulia, seperti Hukum dan Etika Media, Media Baru dan Masyarakat, serta Digital Broadcasting. Melalui kegiatan ini, diharapkan siswa-siswi SMA Bunda Mulia Jakarta dapat memahami pentingnya literasi digital, memiliki kesadaran etis dalam menggunakan media sosial, serta mampu berpikir kritis terhadap berbagai informasi yang beredar di ruang digital.
This trial class activity was relevant to several courses in the Communication Science Program at Universitas Bunda Mulia, such as Media Law and Ethics, New Media and Society, and Digital Broadcasting. Through this activity, it is hoped that students of Bunda Mulia High School Jakarta will better understand the importance of digital literacy, develop ethical awareness in using social media, and become more critical in responding to various information circulating in the digital space.
