Greetings Innovation Biemers!!!
For the first time at Universitas Bunda Mulia, the Management Study Program invited a speaker who is an expert in the field of Innovation, Dr. Avanti Fontana, a postgraduate lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia. In addition to being a lecturer, Dr. Avanti is a researcher and author whose works have been published in various scientific journals. Her book published in 2009, titled “Innovate We Can!”, remains a significant reference for practitioners and academics interested in learning about innovation.
On Friday, March 22, 2024, the activity was conducted in a Sharing Session format, held onsite at UBM Ancol Campus. This session format was designed to create a forum for discussion and knowledge sharing about lecturers’ research in their respective fields. The event began with opening remarks from Mrs. Tannia, S.E., M.M., followed by an introduction of the speaker by the moderator, Dr. Siti Yasmina Zubaedah. Before starting the core discussion session, Dr. Yasmina shared her experiences conducting independent research in the field of Business Agility. This discussion provided an introduction to the main material facilitated by Dr. Avanti on Engaged Scholarship, a research approach that involves stakeholders and offers solutions.
As the facilitator of the session, Dr. Avanti began by sharing her research journey during her master’s and doctoral studies in France. Building on Dr. Yasmina’s earlier presentation, Dr. Avanti aimed to initiate dialogue about the participants’ research and facilitate discussions on how to improve research quality. The Engaged Scholarship concept was introduced as a framework for conducting impactful research that contributes to stakeholders. As the speaker and discussion facilitator, Dr. Avanti engaged each participating lecturer, asking about their current research activities.
Out of the 19 participants present, there were 7 lecturers from the Management Study Program, 6 from Hospitality and Tourism, 5 from Accounting, and 1 from Digital Business. Each lecturer explained their respective research topics. Participants were also given time to apply the Engaged Scholarship framework to their research activities and engage in brief discussions with Dr. Avanti on ways to enhance their research quality. During this session, Dr. Avanti provided numerous suggestions on utilizing the Engaged Scholarship framework to develop research topics and improve the quality of studies. A Q&A session was integrated into the core session facilitated by Dr. Avanti. The session concluded with closing remarks from both Dr. Avanti and Dr. Yasmina.
After the Token of Appreciation was presented to the moderator and speaker, the event concluded with a group photo session, snack distribution, and informal discussions. It is hoped that conducting this seminar with a different format, can inspire and motivate lecturers to continue their research activities alongside teaching. Furthermore, this seminar was aimed to initiate dialogue, activate discussion forums, and foster research collaboration within the Universitas Bunda Mulia environment.
